Christchurch - Slackline - Climbing - All in One

Hi ! Random entry in the blog, I have been very busy doing stuff, climbing, slacklining and everything before surgery, then 3 weeks off and back to be able to Have fun and start again, bit of brewing, bit of slackline testing were my latest adventures.

Highline at Adrian Spot with Gilles, and Ludo!!! 56m Line!!

Albert Terrace Midline!! 67m long

Cleaning Webbing after Ludovic Chavanet sent the 180m New Zealand record!!!  Bravo Ludo!

While Ludo was breaking records, Maira and Martin were playing Acroyoga!

Full Man 180m!

Previous to Surgery day a bit of playing on "Beached Male" V7 in Castle Hill

All beautiful pictures and now the technical Stuff!!!

With Shane from the Slackline Shop New Zealand, we got together and broke more than a couple of webbing, all sorts, from low stretch, Dynemma, Polyester, Polyester Nylon.

Sewn Loop perfect after 30kn - Webbing broke inside locker

Moonwalk intact, Marathon, NZ Webbing(light) broke on Bartacs, Red Tube broke on bartacs, Duralavida(NZ webbing) didn't break after 32kn(rated 39kn) nor the sewn loops.

Most of the Webbings went over 25kn before breaking or slipping in the locker and then braking.
A few got broken in the Bartacs, and others went over 3ton without breaking, not the sewn loop, nor the webbing.

Marathon: Slippage 30kn, melt then cut at 31kn.

Aero1: Slippage 29kn, melted reached 30kn didn't break and we didn't push further.

We measure peaks over 32kn, and the lower point was around 23kn... I might need to review numbers.
The Webbings:

  • Aero 1
  • Marathon
  • Duralavida (NZ Webbing)
  • Red Tube
  • Edge
  • NZ Webbing(light)
  • Moonwalk

We didn't break Duralavida(NZ Webbing) or Moonwalk, even taking up to 32kn. All the others break but Aero 1 that slipped at 29kn.
Red Tube broke at 27kn on the Bartacs
Marathon broke in the locker at 31kn
NZ Webbing(light) broke at 25kn on the Bartacs (this was quite used webbing for highline and very ligth)
Aero 1 reached 29kn and melt
Edge break on the locker at 30kn.

Very interesting how slippage can burn the webbing and still hold lots of tenstion.
We algo made 12mm bolts / 10mm pin to bend over 30kn.

Steel Plates got deformed where the main Diverter bolt was bent and similar with the holes for the Pin. Plates were made of Stainless Steel 304 3mm Custom Plates. Our Anchor bolt was overdimensioned to 20mm.

Some videos below!

The test have different scenarios and there is no real comparison to be done, these are just facts.
I have used 3 different Main Diverters, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm diameter, not repeated for all webbings, just randomly used. It didn't look to change much the strength retention, this is only a fact, it might not be accurate.
Don't take this as a pure scientific experiment but some people experimenting with gear and taking it to its boundaries.

After all that, a bit of brewing, with my friend John, he is doing all the work while I have one arm on a sling but I'm the one that cheers and pour the beer while brewing!

Have fun, Be Safe!
